The Flock
The Pen-y-Wyrlod flock consists of around 80 organic, pure-bred Black Welsh
Mountain Sheep. Each year we have around 100-120 lambs, born outside in March or
April. We have grown our flock over a ten year period, starting off with six
ewes and gradually building up to where we are now.
Being organic, we maintain the health of our animals using homeopathy wherever
possible, only using commercial medicines or treatments in life-threatening
cases.
Black Welsh Mountain sheep are a small, traditional breed renowned for their
sweet taste and great flavour and this year's lambs are a fine example of this.
The lambs are not fed any concentrates or bought-in feed, but simply graze on
our rich organic natural grass. This allows them to slowly mature to provide
exceptionally lean and tender meat.
We generally start selling lambs in November and have them available through
until July, as different animals mature at different rates.
